How long does the process take?
This depends on your child's age, temperament, the methods we choose to use, your level of consistency, and a whole host of other factors! You can expect to see significant results in as little as three days, or as long as two weeks.
Why should I hire a Sleep Consultant? Couldn't I just read a book?
You could just head over to your local bookstore and pick up a book on sleep training, but the shelves are full of books with conflicting information and advice. You could also go with one of the big name, "one size fits all" sleep training companies and purchase their books based on age groups. A book does not customize its suggestions to you and your child, or provide you with you ongoing support and troubleshooting. Hiring a Sleep Consultant is valuable not only for the knowledge that I can provide (which I can condense into a much easier and shorter form than a whole book), but you are also hiring a support and a cheerleader to take you through your sleep coaching process.
Can you guarantee my child will not cry during this process?
No. As a matter of fact, it would be disingenuous to say that the sleep conditioning process will not likely involve tears. Crying is the only way your child can communicate, and when you change up the habits they are so used to, they cry to let you know they are frustrated, angry, or confused about the changes. But what I do guarantee is that I will not tell you to shut the door and leave until they cry themselves to sleep. I find that almost all parents want an alternative to the extinction method (cry-it-out). You can be responsive and support your child with comfort and your presence during the sleep conditioning process, and it will still be effective!
